A simple and homestyle version of a classic dish called Kadhai Paneer. I’ve usually eaten this dish mostly at restaurants and not frequently at home, whereas it’s actually quite a regular at most households. I made this Kadhai Paneer with the basic spices and obviously with green bell peppers. It turned out wonderful. You can also add tomatoes to this recipe if you prefer it that way. Ingredients (Serves 3-4):

250g Paneer (cubed)
1 Green Capsicum (cubed)
1 Onion (chopped)
1 Tomato (chopped)
1 Green Chilli (chopped)
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1 tsp Coriander Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/4 tsp Jeera Powder
1 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeera
1/2 tsp Coriander Seeds
1/4 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
1 Green Cardamom / Elaichi
1/4 cup Coriander Leaves (chopped)
1/2 tsp Salt
Oil for cooking


1. Heat a kadhai, add 1 tbsp Oil once hot and then add Cumin Seeds, Coriander Seeds, Fenugreek Seeds and Green Cardamom (Elachi). Let the dry spices sizzle and splatter, and then add your chopped onions and green chili.
2. Cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes till the onions turn soft and start to brown.
3. Now add chopped tomatoes, cook for about 2-3 minutes till they start to soften. Now add your ginger garlic paste, cook till the raw smell goes for about a minute.
4. Next add your masalas – garam masala, red chilli powder, jeera powder, coriander powder & salt if needed. Stir all of it well & cook for about 1-2 minutes on low to medium heat, and then add your chopped capsicums.
5. Mix well & cook for another 2-3 minutes on medium heat. Now add your cubed Paneer and mix well, till the masalas coat the paneer pieces. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, and garnish with the chopped coriander leaves.
